You’ll make your way through a handful of locations, each broken into a dozen or more tiny dioramic boxes. TOEM is a low-vibes adventure game, with your main mode of interaction with the world being through your chunky polaroid camera (complete with dynamic zoom). Go on a chill adventure, take a few dozen cool snaps and have a few laughs along the way. Every aspect of its tightly built world and story is bursting with kindness, sincerity and more than a few chuckles. It was good.TOEM – Picture Perfect Switch, Steam, PS5 Occasionally hidden socks or ghosts that can only be seen when wearing magical sunglasses, yes. Not an exaggerated comment on modern society. It’s just fun, isn’t it? It’s not groundbreaking, Toem, but it’s kind of nostalgic and modern at the same time, a silly world that you can just enjoy without feeling guilty. Guess who had a new pet the next time I saw them? I also inspired a fashion designer with my outfit, and then everyone in town wore a version of my paper pirate hat. I told a yeti about the fluffy dogs that were wandering around. It’s worth it too because you might see some changes. You can also revisit each location to complete unfinished business, even after the two hours it takes to reach the top of the mountain.

Other tasks involve taking steps on multiple levels, such as tracking down various monsters or finding the seedy trench coat-wearing character who is hiding everywhere. There are some things that you can snap up of that are special, such as unique animals hiding nearby or citizens who made you extraordinarily happy with their help. For example, the new tune for a singer on the beach first had to be filtered through two other people, but then it called out the King Fish that I needed a photo of for someone else. Some puzzles have multiple steps or loop in to solve something else. There is a kind of camera club out there that will ask you requests for photos of certain things, some of which are specific and simple (one guy asked me for a photo of a tree in the forest) while others require more lateral thinking, like the one who who wanted a photo of something “wheel”. This is a godsend because you will be presented with a varied list of inquiries. The camera can be used universally in Toem’s world. You can control a crane with your viewfinder. They are given a horn to scare off pests like seagulls. Not only can you keep your photos in a lovely album, but you can also get a tripod later so you can snap photos of yourself on one of these face-in-hole photo boards and pretend you’re a farmer. So you run around this world You can switch to your camera at any time with a simple zoom and focus slider to take a picture. NPCs are flat and will always face you, but buildings are real 3D and trees are somewhere in between. For example, you can explore different streets in the city and directly zoom out and rotate the camera almost 360 degrees to see it all. This is partly due to the strong, clean lines of the art, but also to the character designs themselves, which range from cute (balloon kid blown away by its balloon parents little fluffy dog creatures ski bird) to insane (punk-lion feeding parrot) instead of pigeons Security guard appreciates how cool you are Ghosts ask for sandwich). The whole world of Toem is kept in black and white, but remains consistently expressive. And there are always more puzzles than stamps that you need so you probably won’t get stuck. If you help someone out, you’ll get a stamp on your card, and enough stamp means you can move on to the next area. You travel back and forth between them on a bus and the currency is Being A Good Citizen.
TOEM GAME REVIEW FULL
This trip takes you through a serene camping forest, seaside town, busy town, and snowy resort, all full of locals with problems. It is a kind of unofficial rite of passage. Your task is to travel from your little home where you live with your Nan to the highest peak of the highest mountain to take a picture of the light phenomenon occurring there. I’ve been here, I did this thing, it was good. This is photography as the joyful insta shot of your life. This isn’t really photography for the camera nerds who care about lenses or different exposures. Shakily focused snapshots of a flower or a ladybug or a beautiful building (badly framed because you can’t see everything in the shot). 1 you do so very often, mostly in the hat department – but because you just snap photos of everything for fun, to remember what you see.
